Haaland and Foden give City win against MU. Hat tricks by Norwegian and Englishman allow Manchester City an unqualified 6-3 derby victory against Manchester United.
Regarding the match against Wolverhampton, there are three changes in City’s starting lineup. John Stones, Ruben Dias and Rodri are replaced by Nathan Ake, Kyle Walker and Ilkay Gundogan.
Compared with the departure to Moldova to Sheriff, the head coach of the Red Devils Eric Ten Hag only changes Cristiano Ronaldo for Diogo Dolot.
City start the match in a hostile manner and on the third minute almost open the scoring, but Kevin de Bruyne’s shot is stopped by United goalkeeper David De Gea, and the defenders manage to finish it off.
In the seventh minute, the Citizens still unlock de Gea’s goal. Bernardo Silva shoots from the left flank and Phil Foden gets forward to head the ball into the near corner to make it 1-0.
On 18 minutes, Ilkay Gundogan is awarded a free-kick on the post. The hosts are in complete control of the game — the visitors’ attempts to break back look too timid.
The second goal is looming and on 34 minutes it happens. Erling Haaland’s header after a Kevin de Bruyne corner kick makes it 2–0.
Three minutes later Haaland converts a double, with his foot on the far post to seal de Bruyne’s pass — 3-0.
Towards the end of the first half, the Citizens speed up the defense with another sharp attack. This time Haaland acts as a dispatcher, and Foden responds to his pass to the far post — 4:0.
Shortly after the start of the second half, the Devils manage to get one goal back. Anthony shifts from the flank to the center and hits a curved shot to make it 4-1.
Anthony’s goal forces City to step up, and the consequence is Haaland’s third goal. In the 64th minute Erling shoots from the center of the penalty area after a pass from the left edge of the area from substitute Sergio Gomez — 5:1.
In the 72nd minute, the beating of the guests continues. Being on the approaches to the penalty area, Haalland makes a low pass inside the area, and Foden shoots de Gea — 6:1.
84 minutes into the match, when the game had already calmed down, substitute Anthony Martial heads the ball into the goal from close range after a save by Ederson — 6:2.
In the last minute of the main time Martial earns a penalty, causing a foul on Joao Cancelo in the penalty area, and he himself uses it — 6:3.
There is no fight in the derby despite United’s three goals. The game is one-sided and City simply tear their opponent apart, showing that Eric Ten Hag has a lot of work to do and talk of a recovery for the Devils is premature.
