José Mourinho.
Sometimes they always come back.
In the last week, there have been two important stories for the EPL that seem to have nothing to do with it.
First, José Mourinho clarified his “emotional connection” with the much-vaunted Newcastle United. The truth is not (only) because of the huge oil pounds, but because of “city and fan support” (and Robson).
And so yesterday there was a ray of hope to cement that emotional bond with a written contract.
“I don’t want to say anything more about the refereeing.”
Well, if not about the refereeing, then about other successes of the Romanians: In the championship José Mourinho , with a very expensive team in Serie A, is in 4th place, 9 points away from first place. 3 defeats in their last 5 games. A bit of a shame, when you remember that all the other Italian clubs are finishing without salt, even having sold out their title holders.
Mind you, at Roma José Mourinho gets a measly €7.5m a year (£6.4m) plus modest compensation from Spurs for his dismissal (another little over £4m difference between his old and new salary).
And how much could the Saudis offer him…?
José Mourinho is a legend in world football, a coach who has won every national championship in the countries where he has worked. The star’s name has made the Guinness Book of World Records five times and José himself, without false modesty, described himself as “special” at the start of his career.
