Manchester City win the Champions League and secure the treble due to Rodri’s goal in final of UCL.
Relative to the FA Cup final a week ago, Ederson and Nathan Ake return to the City starting line-up, replacing Stefan Ortega and Kyle Walker.
As early as the third minute, Erling Haaland is celebrated with a powerful shot from the left edge of the penalty area, but it is inaccurate and, in addition, an offside trap is recorded.
Three minutes later, Bernardo Silva dribbles down the right flank of the penalty area before firing a shot that misses the far corner.
Despite a couple of chances at home, Inter are not in any way embarrassed, they have equal possession and are the first to shoot into the box.
The first goal-scoring chance comes on 27 minutes when Haaland stricks a shot from just outside the box, but Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana confidently denies the ball.
In the 36th minute, Sky Blues manager Josep Guardiola is forced to make his first substitution as Kevin de Bruyne, who was earlier fouled by Onana from distance, is sent off. The Belgian is replaced by Phil Foden.
The visitors can’t immediately adjust to the game without de Bruyne and do not show anything of interest in the remainder of the first half.
The first noteworthy moment in the second half occurs in the 58th minute. Manuel Akanji fails to pass back, Lautaro Martinez makes an interception and goes one-on-one on the left edge of the penalty area. The Argentine can pass to a loose partner but decides to take a shot himself and misses Ederson.
Still, City look better after the break and open the scoring in the 68th minute. Manuel Akanji makes a cutting pass to Bernardo Silva on the right flank into the opponents’ penalty area, who heads the ball back to the onrushing Rodri who with a neat strike sends the ball into Inter’s net — 1-0.
Three minutes later, the scoreline almost becomes even. Federico Dimarco heads the ball over the crossbar and then, trying to score, he hit the substitute Romelu Lukaku.
Inter are forced to take big risks. In the 89th minute, the Italian team have another real moment, but Lukaku’s header is deflected on the goal line by Ederson.
Already at the end of stoppage time, Ederson makes another save, and almost immediately the final whistle sounds.
Manchester City win the Champions League for the first time in their career, but it is an extremely difficult victory – Inter are in the final for a reason.
