Alvarez: I want to leave my mark on the club like Aguero

Alvarez: “I want to leave my mark on the club like Aguero”. The striker has given his first interview about his move to Manchester City.

Alvarez signed a contract until 2027 with City back in January but has remained at River Plate until the end of the South American season.

Julian played his last match for River Plate on Thursday and will be introduced as City’s new signing on Sunday. Ahead of his arrival in England, the 22-year-old Argentine shared his expectations for the transfer.

“I am incredibly excited and I feel ready to play for City. There is no doubt that this is one of the biggest teams in world football.

To understand the class of this team, just look at what they have won in the last 10 years. I’m sure I can open myself up here. Pep’s (Guardiola) style inspires and excites me and I can’t wait to be part of it.

City have an amazing bond with the Argentine players and I want to leave my imprint on the club, like Sergio Aguero, Pablo Sabaleta and Carlos Tevez.

I am so grateful to River Plate for all they have done for me and I want to thank the fans, staff and players for their support. But now I am 100 per cent focused on Manchester City. I want to do my best for this club, help my teammates and contribute to Manchester City’s success”.
