Manchester City — Sevilla. The MatchDay.
Manchester City finish the Champions League group stage with a home game against Sevilla.
This match has no tournament significance not only for City, who have already guaranteed themselves first place in Group G, but also for Sevilla, who are coming into the play-offs from second place.
“We want to win this match and continue to work on some things. Our players can see how good Sevilla are and for the sake of prestige we have to try,” City head coach Josep Guardiola tells a press conference.
- Cityzens won all three of their games against Sevilla in the Champions League with a combined score of 9-2.
- As a coach, Guardiola lost only two of his 13 matches against Spaniards (9 wins, 2 draws) and his team scored an average of 2.5 goals per game.
- The last time Sevilla beat the English team in the Champions League group stage was back in November 2007, 3-1 against Arsenal. Since then, there have been three draws and seven defeats.
- City have won 81% of their home games in the Champions League under Guardiola (26 of 32), the best record of any coach (20+ matches) in the history of the competition.
- Sevilla have not won any of their last six away matches in the Champions League.
- Both of their last two matches in the Champions League, City finished 0-0.
City will save striker Erling Haaland, who is still bothered by his foot. Guardiola also promises to release players who don’t normally play.
