Happy 88th birthday to former full back and the Legend that is Tony Book.
Tony was signed in summer of 1964 with no Football League experience, having spent his early football career in the Southern League with Bath City after a spell with Frome Town. He also played in Canada with Toronto City having joined the club when Malcom Allison, his boss at Bath, was briefly in charge there. His performances in the Second Division soon repaid the faith shown in him by Allison, as Book established himself in the Argyle team.
Book was the complete full-back – a good tackler, plenty of pace, coolness under pressure and a willingness to get forward. Book’s stunning form for Argyle saw him follow Allison to Manchester City, where he won the League Championship, FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup and played until the age of 40.
Have a great day Tony, from all at Argyle Legends!
