City crush Wolves 0–3 and climb to EPL top

Manchester City crush Wolves 0-3 on the road to become Premier League leaders.

Compared to the match against Southampton a fortnight ago, there is only one change in Wolves’ starting line-up. Gonçalo Guedes replaces the injured Saša Kalajdžić. Diego Costa is left out of the starting line-up.

Nathan Ake, Ilkay Gündogan and Riyad Mahrez are missing from the starting line-up after the 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in midweek. They are replaced by Ruben Dias, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.

The visitors manage to open the scoring in the first minute. Foden on the right flank crosses a heel pass to Kevin De Bruyne who shoots into the keeper’s area where Jack Grealish hits the target from just outside the box to make it 0-1.

In the sixth minute, the ball flows into the home side’s goal, but Rodri’s goal is cancelled out by the referee due to an attack on goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Ten minutes are gone by and City do double the lead. Erling Haaland gets free space, advances to the approaches of the penalty area and shoots into the bottom corner of the goal making it 0-2.

Wolverhampton make some attempts to break back, but on 33 minutes, their position becomes disastrous as Nathan Collins spikes Grealish in the stomach and receives a straight red card.

With ten men on the board, the home side go into deep defence. City keep attacking but don’t create any real chances.

In the second half, City remain in the same energy-saving mode. Wolverhampton even begin to make forays, but with a one-player deficit, it is difficult to attack.

The home side’s hopes of bringing the game back to intrigue dies down in the 69th minute. De Bruyne plays in the wall with Haaland on the right flank and shoots towards the near post, where Fodin heads the ball into the net — 0–3. Wolves are no longer resisting.

Wolverhampton are unable to put up a fight against the favourites. A conceded goal in the first minute and a Collins penalty severely disrupt Wolves’ plans, allowing City to pull out a comfortable win.
