Manchester City outclasses Brugge in a 1 – 5 victory in Belgium.
Relative to the 2-0 win over Burnley, Ederson, Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish joined City’s starting line-up.
The match started with two cancelled out City goals. Grealish had flicked the ball over the goalkeeper but before doing so he made an offside tackle and Rodri closed in on Aymeric Laporte’s shot along the goal, but an offside was previously recorded.
The visitors hardly let the ball out. “Bruges just defended and could not even think about counterattacking. “The visitors clearly lacked a spearhead to lock in passes from the flanks.
Nevertheless, in the 30th minute, the score was opened with the first shot on target. Phil Foden crossed from the centre circle into the penalty area, where Joao Cancelo, who had joined in, took the ball with his chest and then shot between the legs of former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to make it 0-1.
Having opened the scoring, City settled down and allowed the hosts to make a number of runs, but no more than that.
On 42 minutes, Riyad Mahrez converted a spot-kick, which he himself had earned – 0-2.
Mahrez shot from an excellent angle right into Mignola before De Bruyne volleyed the ball over the crossbar.
Shortly after the start of the second half, the visitors did score a third goal. De Bruyne made a pass between two defenders to open up Kyle Walker, who struck a shot into the far corner of the goal to make it 0-3.
“The Citizens completely dominated their opponents, and midway through the second half, a fourth goal came. Cole Palmer, who had just come on as a substitute, received the ball on the approach to the penalty area from Raheem Sterling, with his second touch landing a curling shot into the corner of the goal to make it 0-4.
Four goals saturated City. “Brugge were free at the end of the match and took advantage of it. In the 79th minute, Ederson saved his team after a Charles de Ketelaere header, but two minutes later he could do nothing to stop Hans Vanaken’s shot from the centre of the penalty area — 1:4.
However, the visitors still had the final word in the match. On 84 minutes, Mahrez headed the ball over a crouched Mignola for a 1-5 win.
“City won on class despite the lack of a clean striker in the line-up. “Bruges at least got the score cleared, which is already good against such a powerful opponent.
