Haaland’s penalty allows to snatch a 0-1 win away to the Eagles and move within two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Eagles head coach Patrick Vieira brings Luka Milivojević and Jeffrey Schlupp into his starting line-up, replacing Cheick Doucoure and Eberechi Eze.

For the Cityzens, Kyle Walker and Kevin de Bruyne are moved to the substitution. They are replaced by John Stones and Bernardo Silva from the opening minutes.

The match starts with a flurry of City attacks but Vicente Guaita is reliable and the Palace defenders bravely lie down under the blows.

Soon enough, the visitors’ onslaught dulls and they enter a monotonous phase. The home side defend in large numbers but prevent their opponents from creating any clear-cut chances at Guaita’s goal.

Around the half-hour mark, Haaland has a couple of chances, but in the first, Erling shoots wide and in the second, his shot is stopped on the goal line by Marc Guehi.

The teams end the first half with just one shot on target. Palace are fairly good at withstanding the pressure, but they hardly ever get a chance themselves.

In the second half, City still have undivided possession of the ball but can’t break through a lot of legs.

The turning point of the match comes in the 76th minute when Michael Olise hits Ilkay Gundogan in his own penalty area and gives rise to a penalty kick. Haaland takes an 11-metre penalty to make it 0-1.

The Eagles surge up and even put their opponents under some pressure, but they are too late to step up.

Palace opt for a blind defensive tactic and, up to a point, it works. The Eagles look very good in the short period when they need to bounce back, and Patrick Vieira might need to be braver from the start.
