City win the European Super Cup

City win the European Super Cup by beating Spain’s Sevilla in a penalty shootout.

The main time of the match ends 1-1. The game is not easy for City. As the game progresses, they have to get back on track.

There are four changes in the starting line-up for the Sky-Blues side in relation to last Friday’s trip to Burnley. Joško Guardiola, Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish and Cole Palmer appear in the team.

Sevilla look quite defiant at the start of the match, but Manchester City have the first say in the match. Cole Palmer warms up Spanish goalkeeper Yassine Bounou with a long-range shot.

Almost in the next attack Bounou has to make another save, deflecting Nathan Ake’s header.

Later, Bounou saves his team after Grealish’s curling shot from the edge of the box, and Sevilla respond in the 26th minute. It is Youssef En-Nesyri who beats Guardiola on the edge of the box to head home Marcos Acuña’s cross from the left flank — 0:1.

In the rest of the first half Sevilla concentrate on holding their advantage, and the second half starts with a number of sharp counterattacks — once Ederson saves the cityzens by a miracle.

After the break Manchester City are in real trouble with creating dangerous chances, but in the 63rd minute the score becomes equal. Rodri crosses to the far post, where Palmer hits a header — 1:1.

Palmer’s goal becomes a bit illogical, but completely changes the game. The Cityzens gain confidence and in the end they start to dominate their opponents.

City make a great effort to avoid a penalty shootout, but Sevilla manage to hold on until the final whistle.

The penalty shootout is decided by the only miss out of 10 attempts by Nemanja Gudelj who hits the crossbar.

Manchester City get some satisfaction for their defeat to Arsenal in the FA Super Cup. Sevilla, on the other hand, are showing themselves to be more than worthy opponents.
