City pass Bayern Munich in a 1-1 draw to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
City go into the match in the same starting line-up as they did in their first match last week.
Bayern start the match with the overwhelming support of the Allianz Arena, and immediately start to dictate the game.
The hosts create their first serious moment in the 17th minute when Leroy Sane’s slightly faster than John Stones, he bursts into the penalty area from his favourite left and shoots. The ball goes over the bar.
City immediately reply with a one-on-one challenge from Erling Haaland, who is stopped by Dayo Upampecano with a last-ditch foul. The Bayern defender receives a red card which is disallowed due to offside.
In the 21st minute, Sane comes close to scoring again. Ederson deflects Leroy’s free-kick.
City professionally withstand the initial onslaught of their opponents, expertly coming out of defence. And begins a methodical development of their own atacks. In the 35th minute, Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer makes a good save after Ilkay Gundogan shoots from the penalty line. The ball ricochets off Upamecano on the way in. A penalty kick is awarded but Haaland shoots over the goal.
It’s either Haaland’s miss or the approach of half-time, but the hosts step up at the end of the first half. Ederson and the defenders are again struggling, but the scoreline remains nil.
In the second half, Bayern continue to press, but the Cityzens are back on their toes. The first time, Haaland fails to shoot through Sommer. The second time, Ehrling slips away from Upamecano, who slips on the spot, and fires the ball into the net to make it 0-1.
The hosts get depressed after conceding a goal, but then, accept the reality and decide to play at their own pleasure. In the 75th minute, Mathys Tiel hits Ederson, but the goal is disallowed for offside.
On 83 minutes, Bayern are rewarded for their efforts — Kimmich converts a penalty for hitting the ball into the hands of Manuel Acanj — 1-1. And that’s the end of it.
City coolly and pragmatically withstand the pressure of Bayern in front of the raging Allianz Arena stands. And even Haaland’s misfire from the 11-metre mark does not nail City down. City beat Bayern and will now face Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
